On July 8th, 2009 Veterans International Cambodia hosted an awareness party in Cambridge, MA. It was a great success with over 70 people in attendance. Cambodian musicians from Lowell, MA filled the house with traditional music as guests browsed patient artwork, hand woven silk scarves from Joom Noon weaving project in Preah Vihear and learned more about our organization. We were honored to have our guest speaker, best-selling author and human-rights activist Loung Ung.

Speakers:

1. Michael Thornton welcomed the gathering and gave a background of veterans groups in Cambodia.
2. Barrett Thornton spoke about her experiences volunteering at the Prey Veng clinic, the VIC program, the transition to The International Center and the goal of nationalization.
3. Loung Ung gave the group a powerful account of her own and so many other Cambodian's tragic personal history before and after the reign of The Khmer Rouge. She described the life-long difficulties of disabled Cambodians and how VIC supports such victims of war.
